There is something very magical about this time of year in Highland Perthshire. Think crisp mornings, glistening landscapes and hills capped with fluffy snow. The heart of Scotland is a literal winter wonderland. Undoubtedly summer is the most popular season to visit but there is still a lot to love during the colder months.
To help you plan your stay, we have picked out some of our favourite things to do in Highland Perthshire during the winter.
Go on a Winter Watch Safari
Head up the snow-topped hills with Highland Safaris and take in the breathtaking subarctic scenery. Witness winter wildlife, such as the mountain hare and the white ptarmigan in their natural habitat, and learn how they survive the winter.
Go on a distillery tour
Visit Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery, have a dram and take a tour. There are 5 tour options to choose from including a blenders tour where guests can create their own blend to take home.
Kayak down the Tay
Brave the cold waters and learn to kayak with Beyond Adventure. Spend the day on a rewarding journey down the lochs and glens of Big Tree Country.
Craft away the cold
Take a break from the cold with a craft workshop at Karelia House near Aberfeldy. Try your hand at a sewing class or knitting workshop. Complete a crafting session with delicious coffee and cake in the coffee shop.
Relax at a lochside spa
Have a unique spa experience at the Hot Box Spa at Taymouth Marina, Kenmore. Unwind in the sauna and hydro pool whilst taking in the beautiful view of Loch Tay. Reap the benefits of hydrotherapy by following it up with a cold water shower, a cold water dunk bucket or, if you are really adventurous, try the slide that plunges you right in to the loch. Refreshing!
Shop ’til you drop
Highland Perthshire is brimming with independent retailers selling all sorts of treasures. The Watermill Bookshop, Cafe and Art Gallery in Aberfeldy is a must-visit. Named as one of the world’s best bookshops by the New Yorker, it is a wonderful place to while away the time.
Visit the Birks Cinema
A true gem, this beautifully restored art-deco cinema offers way more than your latest blockbuster. Visitors can also experience theatre and ballet through live broadcasting, as well as acoustic music sessions. Upcoming productions to look out for include The Royal Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker and André Rieu: 70 Years Later.
After you have finished exploring Highland Perthshire, make your way back to Brae House B&B to warm up in our guest lounge and take in the panoramic views of the wintry glen. Sounds perfect, right?
